Endūre Athletic Mental Fitness

🏋️‍♀️ Welcome to Endūre’s First-Ever Newsletter! 🧠

Welcome to our very first monthly newsletter! We know your inbox is basically a competitive sport (and probably more crowded than a summer lift session at 6 a.m.), so we’re seriously flattered you opened this. Our goal is simple: keep it short, helpful, and maybe even a little fun. Like a well-run practice: high impact, low fluff.

The Origin Story

It makes sense that with our 1st newsletter we should start from the very beginning.  Fifteen years ago, Sarah and Shannon were just two therapists working in Charlottesville, VA, doing the nonprofit grind and unknowingly laying the groundwork for something big.

One professional training trip to California later, we discovered that in addition to our shared passion for helping others heal—we also deeply love sports, mental fitness, and athletes who push themselves to the edge… and sometimes too far.

  • Sarah was a 3-season, 2-sport college athlete who played international basketball, married an athlete, and now has a D1 lacrosse player at the dinner table. Basically, her blood type is Gatorade.

  • Shannon ran all the races (cross country, indoor, outdoor track) at JMU, married her college sweetheart (also a runner), and now raises three boys who require every ounce of her endurance just to keep up.

Over the years, we kept hearing the same thing from athletes: “I’m stronger than I’ve ever been but something is still not clicking”.

That’s when Endūre was born — to support mentally strong, high-performing athletes and the coaches who lead them.

Why Endūre?

Because that’s what you do.

You keep going — through injury, heat, setbacks, heartbreak, extra reps, early mornings, long seasons, and sometimes doubt. But to endūre isn’t just about grit. It’s about knowing when to push and when to pause.

It’s about strength and wisdom.

We believe in the kind of endurance that fuels greatness and protects your well-being. The kind that helps you come back stronger — or sometimes, just come back at all.

Athletes Who Inspire the Way We Think About Mental Resilience:

🏆 Naomi Osaka
Walked away from tournaments to protect her mental health — and started a global conversation. Sometimes strength means saying, “Not today.”

🤸 Simone Biles
She left events in Tokyo, then returned to win 3 golds and 1 silver in Paris. Sometimes mental fitness means regrouping — and then dominating.

🏈 Damar Hamlin
Went into cardiac arrest mid-game. Came back to the NFL in less than a year. His story reminds us: sometimes healing is the most heroic play of all.

And then there’s YOU.

  • You train in 95-degree heat.

  • You recruit across time zones.

  • You lift alone all summer while your friends are at the beach.

  • You chase goals no one else can see yet.

You Endūre. And we’re lucky to be in your corner.

The Resilience Report

We are always watching sports and it’s not hard to find examples of moments when mental fitness is on full display.  Each month we will feature a story or example of one of these moments.

Tennis is a mentally taxing sport and this was on full display at Wimbledon.

Amanda Anisimova's journey to the Wimbledon final came through a large amount of adversity.

The 23-year-old was once a junior tennis star who represented one of several talented American players at the youth level. However, in 2023, Anisimova took a break from tennis, a surprising decision for a 21-year-old to make. "I've really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022," she wrote on social media. "It's become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I've worked as hard as I could to push through it."

During this break, Anisimova spent more time with her family, including her young nephews, studied at Florida’s Nova Southeastern University and took up painting. When she decided to return to the game in preparation for the 2024 Australian Open, Anisimova found it easier than expected.

Looking back on her break, Anisimova believes it was an important decision with where she was in her life and career. Anisimova made it to this year’s Wimbledon finals, which is the farthest she has competed in any of the four Grand Slam tournaments. She currently ranks No. 12 in the WTA, which is the highest ranking of her professional tennis career.

What are we tuning into?

🎬 Owen Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill — once golf’s golden boy, now a washed-up recluse still haunted by tragedy. When a fiery teenage prodigy named Santi crashes into his life, Pryce is forced back into the game — and into a mentorship that just might save them both.

🧠 This tv show isn’t just about the swing.
It’s about the breakdowns, the breakthroughs, and the mental minefields we all try to putt through.  Proving what we all know: “Sometimes the hardest game… is the one in your head.”
